Yiddish: A Global Culture
Amherst, MA
CULTURE & HISTORY Architecture + Design was charged to reimagine this existing book repository as a museum. Over 5000 square feet on 2 levels now tell the story of Yiddish as a global language. The challenge of engaging visitors with a collection that is almost all printed books was met through the creation of interactive exhibitions, commissioned artwork, and immersive environments.

“The first thing to say about Yiddish: A Global Culture, the new core exhibit at the Yiddish Book Center, is that it is terrific: capacious, playful, valuably affirmative. If someone seeking to understand Yiddish culture asked me for a single source from which to start, I’d send them to the Center and tell them to roam around.”
—Lawrence Rosenwald, In Geveb: A Journal of Yiddish Studies
